Oh, how I love a good summer soirée — or any soirée, for that matter.

Whether it’s a holiday party, an outdoor picnic, or a “just because” celebration, when I prepare for guests, the décor is always top of mind — especially the table. From the centerpiece and glassware to the linens and finishing accents, every detail has the power to express something personal.

Think of your table as an extension of you.

Do it with style. Add your personality from beginning to end. If there isn’t already a theme, create one that feels meaningful. Let it reflect your life, your story, and your mood. Once you’ve chosen a location, weave that theme into every layer — from the invitation to the playlist, even the time. Who says a gathering must start at 3:00? Make it 3:01, or pick a time that holds personal significance.

We often think about what we’ll wear for an event — but what about your table? What will it wear?

Dinnerware, glassware, flatware, linens, and centerpieces are your wardrobe of design. Mix and match, add texture, and layer details that speak to your style. Start with a color palette to tell the story. For Christmas dinner, I bring out deep red wine goblets; for an outdoor picnic, I might reach for vibrant acrylic stemware that catches the light.

No table is complete without candles and florals — they set the mood and soften the atmosphere. Whether taper, pillar, or votive, candlelight creates intimacy and makes any meal feel special. When arranging flowers, remember: beauty should invite connection, not block it. Keep arrangements low enough that your guests can see one another across the table.

As for dinnerware and glassware, let the tone of the event guide your choices. I’ve always believed you can mix casual and refined with confidence. Pair classic china with everyday pieces, or layer geometric and floral patterns for playful sophistication. If you own a full set of china, use it — beauty is meant to be lived with, not stored away.

For a more elevated touch, mirrored chargers instantly add polish and reflection. Choose linens that complement your color palette — jacquard, linen, or soft cotton textures that add warmth and dimension.

And finally, never forget the finishing touches. Place cards, small favors, or thoughtful details can make guests feel seen. One of my favorites was using framed photos of each guest as a place card — a simple gesture that made everyone smile.

In the end, it’s about creativity, joy, and personal expression. Dress your table the way you’d dress yourself — with intention, confidence, and a touch of flair.

So go ahead, plan your next gathering, even if it’s just a cozy backyard soirée. Make it thoughtful, make it beautiful — make it pretty.

Cheers and Bon Appétit!
